Promise #68: Plan a rocking Father’s Day in 7 steps

This is a promise for all the mammas in the house.

You might be thinking that you don’t have this in you. That there’s just not enough time in your day to plan a rocking Father’s Day for your hubby/boyfriend or heck, even your ex.
You do have the time for this one. Trust me. You’re a measly seven steps away from looking like a rockstar. Let’s get started. Time is ticking.
Complete the following before Sunday
Step One
Cancel his tee-time, mee-time, glee time RIGHT NOW. Chances are he really didn’t mean to schedule anything…he’s just so busy he forgot that Sunday is HIS day. After all, how can you celebrate being a father without the kids around. That’s just silly. Go on…dial away.
Are you back? Getting pretty excited, aren’t you? I know. Don’t keep it all to yourself.
Step Two
Prep the kids for all the fun they’re going to have with their dad on Father’s Day. After all, sky’s the limit with Mr. Funfest. Maybe they could take a few minutes to create a wish list of activities for the day. You can have them make the list with crayons and stickers and all that *cute* *irresistable* stuff they use to make those completely un-redeemable coupons they give you on Mother’s Day. Just be sure they don’t make any coupons for him, that would be ridiculous.
Step Three
Extend the fun to other children in the neighborhood who might be missing their dad on Father’s Day. Invite them over for an all-day play-date. Doors open at 10 am. Pick-up is at 5:30. Lunch is on the house.
Step Four
Invite the in-laws over for dinner around six. There’s no way Mr. Fun is ever going to want the day to end. You need to milk every last minute. Don’t worry about what you might serve. He loves to grill and this day is. all. about. him. You can pick up hot dogs and hamburgers in the afternoon. Don’t even give it a second thought.
Complete the following on Sunday
Step Five
Reciprocate your Mother’s Day breakfast in bed with a very special breakfast for him. Just make sure the kids snuggle up next to him and chow down. Eggs, toast with jam, yogurt with granola, orange juice. Wiggly. Crunchy. Sticky. Gooey. Juicy. It’s going to be a big day. Everyone needs their energy.
Step Six
Hand over the keys to your mini-van, mini-truck, mini-bus, mini-tanker. There’s no way he’s going to be able to tool around town with the kids in that little sporty thang he drives. Buck up and just trade yourself down for the day. You can do it. YOU. CAN. DO. IT.
Step Seven
Get out of dodge. It’s not Mother’s-and-Father’s Day. It’s Father’s Day. Don’t try to steal his thunder. Leave the premises immediately. That’s right, leave. Hop in his little sports car and try to occupy yourself for the day.
I know, boo-hoo.
The six o’clock dinner bell will ring before you know it. If you’re a little shaky wondering what you might do for the day take a page out of his book: go golfing, meet up with buddies, visit the gym, take a hike, read in a park…Better yet, just go to the movies, drop in a spa, get a mani-pedi, lunch alone, go shopping, really, need I continue?
While you’re out pick up whatever it is you think he’d really love to cook for dinner. And don’t be late. You’re not going to want to miss the sparkle in his eyes when everyone arrives at six.
I hope you all have a mutha of a day.
