The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.

This may be the most interesting street in the world. It’s as smooth as it is rough, as light as it is dark. It’s full of twists and dips, peaks and potholes. There are rumble strips and yellow lights, tire-worn paint and shoulder-hugging rails. But for all there is, there are no turns. You can travel one mile or a million and the trip will change your life.
Friend street is funny like that: you need to buckle up and enjoy the ride or search for the nearest exit ramp.
I traveled the ramp a few times. Sometimes I was the driver, sometimes not. Regardless, I always managed to find a little extra energy at the end of it, no doubt the result of leaving a soul-sucking ride in the dust.
It’s the soul-feeding experience that’s worth finding.
I’m talking about the comfort of knowing the beauty of conversation matches the strength of a long silence; of realizing that when your battery starts to fade, it will be jumped with a smile; of stoking your life with the high-octane juice pure, honest, loving friends provide; of trusting you’ll get where you’re going, not on a wing and a prayer, but on the pumped up wheels of support we all need to thrive.
Sometimes it’s difficult to remember the easiest way to cruise through life is to just make the time for a joy ride.

That’s an interesting thought, i.e. what would happen on Soul Street? I’m thinking that’s a totally different ride, full of hills and valleys. I’d guess you’d be able to fill up your tank in a valley, you know a period of smooth sailing, in order to traverse the hills. But I would hope there might not be an exit ramp there, because I can’t imagine walking away from your soul. Although I can imagine we tend to do it all the time…

Beautiful message and written! Friend Street does get a lot of travel doesn’t it? It has all those twists and turns and sometimes doesn’t get traveled at all because – damn who wants to travel a tumultuous road!
After I was done reading your post, I wondered how it would read if the sign said Soul instead of friend. You know, taking friend to the inside and being kind to the self. My head is in that space with the heart because of preparing for the eCourse. :)
Still, I can’t help but wonder, if the road was called Soul if I would have exited a few ramps sooner rather than later to ease those difficult times and how, “…trusting you’ll get where you’re going, not on a wing and a prayer, but on the pumped up wheels of support….” would have allowed me to thrive sooner as well.
Now, I’m aware of the road called Soul but wasn’t always and you’re post reminded me of the benefits of traveling such a road consciously – it changes everything and yep – the thrill of the ride is soooo there!
Thanks for such a great post!
