Promise #71: Give your shim sham shimmy a rest

In other words: quit tap dancing.

When you dance around a subject the world wonders: WHY?

When you dance around a question our only thought is: WTF?

When you shuffle your feet we imagine you wanting to be somewhere else.

When you rock back and forth, arms crossed, eyes elsewhere, we know you’re lying.

Your little shim sham shimmy is exhausting. For us, more than you.

So grow up and give it a rest.

It’s so much easier to dance when you’re not all tangled up in lies.

  • How true! The connecting theme with clients i work w/one-on-one with is honesty. I think the majority of reactions to the be honest, live authentic, stop tap dancing (brilliant by the way) message is , “Oh – I – dooo!

In reality, no, most do not. It isn’t easy to live an authentic life and express your integrity in the world and then have it take shape as a sustained livelihood, for two reasons – self-acceptance and self-trust (which is a fancy pants way of saying confidence). It takes practice and work in creating that solid inner state.

What prevents us from truly bringing our gifts into the world and living the life we desire is an under lying wound for approval. This can be approval for our self as well. If we don’t heal that need within ourselves we’ll never be able to stop tap dancing nor will we be able to create anything that truly sustains us for our decisions, expressions and the way we choose to communicate in the world will always be compromised by what we think the “other person” wants to hear & what that will get us in return. I believe “the shimmy” or the lack of the shimmy – is a key to living authentically. If the shimmy returned as a dance move to preform as celebration instead of as a way to hustle through life – happiness would be everyone’s experience!

    Great post!

    • Stephey-you take the shimmy concept to a whole new level here. I love that! It’s so true that we tap dance around our own truth and honesty about what we need as individuals to be happy and productive and passionate and successful.

It does take practice and work in creating that solid inner state. I’ll just add that that state is constantly in flux and we continue to learn and grow.

Thanks for sharing your brilliance here on twisted!

  • OK! I’m giving up the tapping but the arm crossing could be a little harder to accomplish!
