Promise #48: Embrace the (re)solution

Excuse my French, but I think New Year’s resolutions are crap. If you’ve ever made a profound change in your life, I’m willing to bet you didn’t do it on New Year’s Day (or anytime during the month of January). If you did, good for you. Drop me a comment below. Tell me if you did it because you already embraced the secret to change: trust in yourself. That’s the mother of all resolutions.
When you trust yourself, you can do anything. It’s really that simple.
Look at the top 10 resolutions listed on Squidoo. Are any of those possible without trust in yourself? Absolutely not. If you can’t trust yourself to enjoy a cup of coffee without a cigarette, you will eventually light up. If you can’t trust yourself to exercise every day, you won’t become fit. If you can’t trust yourself to spread your wings and soar, you won’t.
I know this to be true. Which is why I’m not making any resolutions this year. I am embracing the solution. I’m going to just trust myself. It’s the one thing my pea brain doesn’t do enough. It’s the one thing keeping my feet firmly planted on the floor. It’s the one thing missing from the changes I need to make in my life and my work. Two little words, infinite possibilities: trust myself.
Spread your wings with me.
Let’s soar.

Good for you. I think resolution are crap too. You do have to trust yourself in wanting to be come a better person or be all you can be. People talk about resoluations when they run out of other things to talk about. Like the weather LOL
I love your honesty. Keep it up.

Debbie-So how’s the weather? Just kidding. Thanks for taking the time to read, comment and share. I’m glad I’m not the only one willing to buck the hype. I bet most people have pretty much forgotten about their resolutions already, or found something else to talk about.

As I was sitting here debating what to make as my resolution for the coming year, I was this. WOW!! This is such an eye-opening statement. I have printed it out and it is the first page in my journal for the new year. Thank you for that. I think this makes all the difference.

Well…I’m flattered to join you in your journal. :-) And I look forward to soaring with you now that I know you’re going to just trust yourself. I hope it makes all the difference in your world. Happiest of New Years to you.

I like your post. Trust yourself. Instead of resolutions, I look at my board on this day and consider it a vision board rather than resolutions. If it didn’t quite happen yet, then it must not have been high enough up on that list of things I want to do. Much more pleasurable to consider this list I make each year as a list of things I WANT to do, rather than must do’s. Happy New Year!

I LOVE the idea of a Vision Board! It just makes so much more sense. And you’re so right about doing things you want, instead of doing things you must. Especially when those things are personal goals. Thanks for sharing! Happy, happy new year to you.

This is definitely something I don’t do enough either. I believe that trusting yourself and knowing, truly knowing, that you’ll be fine without the things you hold onto with white knuckles are two very important parts of life. You’ve inspired me again — thank you and happy new year!
Tracey Selingo
Happy New Year, Marci. Thanks for your comment. It’s good to know I’m not alone. :-) Here’s to a year without white knuckles…
